There were a sizeable number of migrants behind the Sobeys store in Liverpo=
ol this morning. I had 34 cedar waxwings, nine American robins, two white-=
throated sparrows, a song sparrow, a female northern cardinal, five purple =
finches, one yellow-breasted chat, and an unknown warbler. I got two perfe=
ct looks at the chat one of which had it in the open, but by the time I rai=
sed the camera it flew into heavy foilage. The second time I had a chance =
for a photo of the chat up pops a warbler. The lighting was horrid, so I t=
hink it was either an orange-crowned warbler or a pine, but I cannot say fo=
r sure. I had it in the viewfinder of my camera and just as I clicked a ph=
oto it flew. I saw it again briefly, but again the light was awful even in=
the binoculars. I went to get Dorothy who was in the car and neither the =
chat nor the warbler made a reappearance. I went back later in the afterno=
on and didn't see a single bird other than a bald eagle flying over.
Other than that the only other species of note was a red-throated loon flyi=
ng by at Western Head and a red-throated loon off the beach at Beach Meadow=
s.
