The main presentation will be: Sky Perspectives: Notes from a 77-orbit Visit to the Third Planet by Dr. Ro= y Bishop Canada=92s pre-eminent popularizer of astronomy, Terence Dickinson, refers = to amateur astronomers as the =93naturalists of the night=94. I count mysel= f among them. One of the reasons the Blomidon Naturalists Society is now in= its fifth decade is that its founders cast a wide net when they wrote: =93= For the purpose of the Society, the word =91nature=92 will be interpreted b= roadly and shall include the rocks, plants, animals, water, air, and stars.= =94 Addressing stars, I shall describe some of my own encounters with the m= ystery and beauty of the sky, followed by a summary of some of the unpreced= ented advances that have occurred in astronomy within my lifetime. Roy Bishop was one of the founding members of the Blomidon Naturalists Soci= ety 42 years ago. He is a past-president and an honorary member of our Soci= ety, and has served on the Natural History Calendar committee for the past = 20 years. Dr. Bishop is Emeritus Professor of Physics at Acadia, and a past= -president of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada. He has been honored= by the International Astronomical Union with the naming of asteroid 6901 = =93Roybishop=94, and by induction into Nova Scotia=92s Discovery Centre Sci= ence Hall of Fame.
