hi Ian,

What types of conditions are present in the woodlot?

Even if there are no openings or wet areas for Tree Swallows, many cavity
nesters in our region would still feed their young some flying insects in
the breeding season (e.g., chickadees, nuthatches, woodpeckers). Depending
on conditions present, the woodlot owners could be the first (?) in NS to
test a Chimney Swift nestbox...how easily discouraged are they? :)

Another thought is that they might have as much, or better, success through
strategic woodlot management, for example by retaining old trees, snags and
deadwood (for cavity nesters), and encouraging growth of deciduous shrubs
within forest (for warblers).
