Interesting, and a little troubling, that a shrike has been recorded on =
the DOWL list, just as the period is closing.=20

=20

Down here in Yarmouth during my time, they have always been somewhat =
noteworthy, but it has been about five years since this casual =
birdwatcher has seen one in our corner of the universe.

=20

We have 3 new species for the DoWL but our count only goes up 2 because =
I mistakenly ticked Long-eared Owl from a Christmas Bird Count on the =
DoWL on my last update.

=20

The new ones are:

Black-backed Woodpecker, David McCorquodale, Glenora, Inverness County

Northern Shrike, David McCorquodale, Grand Narrows, Cape Breton County

Northern Saw-whet Owl, Tony Millard, Lawrencetown, Halifax County

=20

We are 1 species away from matching our best ever DoWL of 153 species in =
2008/9. This the 11th year the DoWL has been tracked.=20
