I was surprised how long it took get one on the DoWL. It came from David Mc=
Corquodale so there is no doubt about its observation.
I have trouble getting shrikes, I have never found one on my own.

Interesting, and a little troubling, that a shrike has been recorded on the=
DOWL list, just as the period is closing.
Down here in Yarmouth during my time, they have always been somewhat notewo=
rthy, but it has been about five years since this casual birdwatcher has se=
en one in our corner of the universe.

We have 3 new species for the DoWL but our count only goes up 2 because I m=
istakenly ticked Long-eared Owl from a Christmas Bird Count on the DoWL on =
my last update.
The new ones are:
Black-backed Woodpecker, David McCorquodale, Glenora, Inverness County
Northern Shrike, David McCorquodale, Grand Narrows, Cape Breton County
Northern Saw-whet Owl, Tony Millard, Lawrencetown, Halifax County
We are 1 species away from matching our best ever DoWL of 153 species in 20=
08/9. This the 11th year the DoWL has been tracked.
