Yesterday evening (28 Feb.) I went over to my family home in Bedford about 7 p.m. I stood outside for a few minutes to enjoy the clear night sky, and the lovely view of a crescent moon close to Venus. While I relaxed and observed, I slowly realized that I could hear a Saw-whet Owl calling from the wooded hillside above me! It continued for more than five minutes.

We have had Barred Owls occasionally in our woods over the years, but never, to my knowledge, a Saw-whet. It makes me look forward to Owl Survey Season - only a month away.
