This evening on April 23, I ran my second route for owl monitoring which ru=
ns from Rhodes Corner, through to Whynott's Settlement, to Maitland and the=
n up to Sweetland. Kevin Lantz and Kelly-Sue O'Connor accompanied me. We =
had six barred owls. It was odd that at the last three stops which are usu=
ally some of the best that only one owl was heard and very far away. We st=
arted out at +3 and ended at -5. It was one of the clearest and quietest e=
venings that I've been out on a route. At the last there was land fog. I'=
m not sure if that affected owls or if some have not returned yet. It was d=
ownright errie as to how quiet things were. We did have two American woodco=
cks, American Robins, one common loon and of all things geese calling. The=
geese sounded like a northern saw-whet owl at first. The dirt road in plac=
es was much to be desired. Anyhow, a great evening out.
