hi folks,

Buying it locally would be ideal, but it is not yet sold in the Annapolis
Valley, so I've been having it shipped directly from Birds and Beans. It
usually arrives in 2-4 days. I costed it out and ordering 5 lb bags makes
the total cost (coffee + tax + shipping) about the same as ordering fair
trade/organic locally. With a second person adding to the order, (so
splitting the shipping), it works out to be cheaper.

Birds and Beans also has 'Coffee Clubs': if you have a group of people
locally that make a periodic bulk order the costs rapidly decrease.
Something like this might work with the Nova Scotia Bird Society if orders
were taken and coffee was distributed at monthly meetings.

That said, cost is not the only important factor; there's value in
supporting local businesses that have pioneered fair trade/organic (but not
Smithsonian 'Bird Friendly' certified) coffee in our region (e.g. Just Us)
which is so much better for birds/wildlife/people than other brands of
coffee without those certifications...
