I have not been back there in 14-16 years (perhaps a trailer park now) =
but Medeola virginiana (Indian Cucumber-Root) used to be abundant south of =
New Minas in about 10 acres; road going south from the water tower to near =
highest elevation, enter open beech woods just past a small gravel pit and =
head west.
It needs sun and in the North Alton woodlot became widespread along sev=
eral hundred yards of a pick and shovel road which I made about 1983. As th=
e canopy closed it faded to gone. The seed source was no likely from scatte=
red plants in a relatively open stand of large Poplar and Birch.
