Hi All,
</div>=20
<div>
    It is interesting that this mock funeral will increase hi=
ghway traffic (briefly) because the expansion of highways, especially of th=
e 101 series, has destroyed a huge chunk of potential forest land and taken=
a much larger bite out of small animal habitat/population. Even a 10" =
high gravel ridge is a barrier to snake travel and the huge cuts and fills =
associated with the 101 series has fragmented Reptile and Amphibian habitat=
much as a sledge hammer can fragment a fragile glass container.
</div>=20
<div>
   The idea that Moose need mature forest is not sound. I hav=
e never hunted Moose but have several times hunted Deer in upland country w=
here Moose were also present. Moose sign were consistently very sparse in m=
ature woodland (as in got to get through this wasteland) and abundant in ne=
arby clearcut regrowth. In recent times Moose reached the coast in BC. Matu=
re forest had acted as a barrier to travel and logging generated the food f=
riendly means to travel from inland areas to the coast.
</div>=20
<div>
    It has been my experience that woodland, flattened by cle=
arcut or Spruce Budworm, becomes very good wildlife habitat within 10 years=
and sometimes 1-2 if hardwoods are involved.  Has this changed ? Are =
recent clearcuts not growing back ?

<p>The Forest Funeral is a ceremony to both celebrate the life of the =
Acadian Forest, and also to mourn its great losses in Nova Scotia, particul=
arly in recent years. </p>=20
<p><strong>Old Man Luedecke </strong>is going to sing <strong>"Sad=
as a Forest</strong>", a marvelous song.  Lee Keating, an early l=
ogger, woodsman, and guide is driving all the way from Clyde River to sing =
his song about forest progress (pointing to the great progress to the felle=
r buncher over the axe...).  We have an array of amazing people who wi=
ll say a few words in ode to our great Acadian forest.  Soren Bondrup-=
Nielsen will offer a lament to forest wildlife; those species that suffer w=
hen forests are clearcut, removing critical food sources and shelter along =
with the wood (which is mostly going for chips from 40-50 year old stands).=
  Bob Bancroft is going to deliver a gripping Eulogy.  I hear the=
re will be moose, fisher, marten, and forest birds in attendance.  Whe=
re have you ever attended a funeral with those present?   It only make=
s sense to pay respects to these species, since the critical loss of mature=
forests have caused the demise of these and other wildlife species.</p>=20
<p>It's quite  legacy we are leaving to our children. &#=
