As expected, and despite periods of heavy rain yesterday, the generally mil=
d weather has meant for an excellent start to our WBL this year. We are now=
at 124 species and I=92m probably missing a few yet that I=92ll catch up o=
n when all of checklists are posted and factored into the provincial list. =
We had at least 108 on day one which is the most that I=92m aware of though=
that is a stat that has not been tracked.

The bird of the day on day one was the Little Gull Mark Dennis had on Danie=
l=92s Head, Cape Sable. And day two=92s bird of the day would be Paolo=92s =
Red-eyed Vireo at Point Pleasant Park, Halifax. It has been 16 years since =
that one has made the list.

Some other notables were
Great Egrets 4 at CSI (see all 4 in a pic on Mark Dennis=92 checklist at T=
he Hawk) and the long staying one at Lawrencetown Beach
Snowy Egret CSI
Cooper=92s Hawk at CSI
Western Willet (same one?) back at Crescent Beach this year
Eastern Phoebe Harold Forsyth=92s farm
Marsh Wren the Bisset Lake one was a no-show but the Miner=92s Marsh bird w=
as consistently voicing it=92s disapproval
American Redstart Yarmouth
Northern Parula after back to back misses, good to see we have this one alr=
eady. Yarmouth , Halifax and a couple at Beach Meadows Beach
Yellow-throated Warbler Port Williams, that makes 12 out the last 15 years =
for this one
Wilson=92s Warbler Wolfville Rail Trail, 5th year in a row
Field Sparrow Wolfville Rail Trail, after dipping last year this is 7 out o=
f 8 years now
Summer Tanager Halifax and Yarmouth, missed the previous 5 years
Rose-breasted Grosbeak Wolfville Rail Trail
Indigo Bunting Queens, Shelburne and Yarmouth counties

There may be a short delay before the spreadsheet gets uploaded but for mor=
e info or to view, download the WBL spreadsheet, visit our Winter Birds pag=
e under Library at http://nsbirdsociety.ca/
