We are now at species 196 species which is 2 more than we had at the end of=
January last year and 3 short of the 199 we finished with

The big news today was Tom Kavanaugh of Canso reporting his recent birds to=
Facebook. Some of us try to get to Canso in fall because it is one of Nova=
Scotia=92s great migrant traps but not many make the trip in winter so for=
sure we miss out on some great birds. Tom has legendary feeders and has ha=
d a plethora of amazing birds over the years so it is great to get his repo=
rt.
Tom had the Rusty Blackbirds since November so I=92m upping our end of Dece=
mber count to 192

Addition(s) since the last update:
Blu-gray Gnatcatcher =96 Tom Kavanaugh, Chapel Gully Trail, Canso. 11 year=
s in a row now.
Rusty Blackbird =96 Tom Kavanaugh, Tom=92s feeders, Canso. He has had 9 c=
oming since November!

**The core species we are still missing (the white rows in the spreadsheet)=
.
Ruddy Duck =96 any day now=85.or not. A surprising miss so far
Eastern Meadowlark =96 2 years ago we dipped and thereby snapped a 20+ year=
 streak

**Species we=92re still missing that have been on the Winter Bird List 15 o=
r 16 times in the last 20 years
Gyrfalcon

**Obviously most are very unlikely now but species we=92re still missing th=
at have been on the Winter Bird List 13 or 14 times in the last 20 years
Sexy Duck (Redhead)
Semipalmated Sandpiper
House Wren
Black-and-White Warbler
Lark Sparrow

There may be a short delay before the spreadsheet gets uploaded but for mor=
e info or to view the WBL list or to download the full version of the WBL s=
preadsheet, visit our Winter Birds page under Library at http://nsbirdsocie=
ty.ca/
