> Agree- you notice the most things in almost all habitats when=
you stop and sit for awhile, or pull over the boat, stop the ATV=E2=80=A6 =
>=20
> Whereabouts did you see the Sora? No need to be specific. The=
recorded eBird sightings for Sep are not along the Atlantic side of NS, wh=
ere you usually are.
> > Hi All
> > Yesterday when coming back from canoeing a small stream
> > I came upon a downed tree that looked like a good seat.
> > So I set the canoe down, got out a drink and relaxed.
> > That is the surest way to see something interesting, in=
my opinion
> > anyway and I looked down and a pretty golden olive cate=
rpillar
> > was walking near my feet. It had a black shiny head and=
half
> > a dozen black spikes on its back. American Dagger Moth =
is the
> > nearest I can come up with in my book. It must overwint=
er somehow.
> > The stream was interesting, the water low but passable,=
the trout beautiful
> > in their fall colors, The Golden Shiners plain this tim=
e of year
> > but always ready to snap a fly!
> > Interesting birds was a Sora Rail - it fly up beside th=
e water and looked
> > like it could hardly make it over the grass. It soon fl=
opped down. How it hopes
> > to go South flying like that is a wonder. a Hood Mergan=
ser, a female just molted
> > not able to fly went ahead of me in the stream. Must ha=
ve nested nearby.=20
> > Lots of hollow trees in the area. A Palm Warbler came t=
o see me. Flirted
> > around the bushes next to me.
> > A great day!
> > Enjoy the fall!
