APRIL 9/20 - COLTSFOOT in bloom (about 10 or more flowering heads) along =
Oak Avenue in Wolfville.

APRIL 22/20 =97 50th anniversary of EARTH DAY. Instead of picking up =
garbage, I decided on a long walk along the Greenwich rail trail to =
check on the bald eagle nest along the Cornwallis River north of Noggins =
Farm. Most of the nest has blown down (when?), but no eagles were seen =
in the area of the still-present base of the nest.

On my walk back, I had a nice sighting of about 75 cedar waxwings, near =
two ponds just north of Noggins Farm. I had a good look at the flock =
but spotted no Bohemians among them.

About a week ago I drove to Windsor to check a couple of bald eagle =
nests. First I took Highway 14 toward Chester to Redden Road, then =
turned north to near the very large nest by a farmhouse =97 there was an =
adult eagle on the nest in incubation posture.

The second nest-check is in a very precarious spot traffic-wise. The =
Falmouth Connector ramp toward Highway 101 toward Hantsport is where I =
pulled off to the right to look at a woodlot containing an eagle nest =97 =
but no eagle was visible on the nest.

Other sightings during the past week in east-end Wolfville included a =
male-female pair of cardinals, 2 male n. flickers interacting and trying =
to stay in our yard, several c. grackles, several red-winged blackbirds, =
4 cedar waxwings, 2 mallards, 2 blue jays, several song sparrows, lots =
of goldfinches, many starlings, 2 mourning doves, occasional rock =
pigeons, plus frequent crows and ravens.

Yesterday was the first day I saw lots of flying insects attending =
heather flowers?, but none of them were honeybees =97 some may have been =
other kinds of smaller bees?, but most were kinds of flies?

FLOWERS seen to now: coltsfoot, aspen poplar catkins, red maple, silver =
maple, plus various early garden plants like crocuses, scilla/bluets, =
and recently daffodills.

APRIL 25/20 =97 Today Pat & I drove to Hortonville for a walk on the =
main dyke toward The Guzzle. Where we parked the car we could see a new =
bald eagle nest in the tall trees (poplars?) along the former train =
tracks =97 one adult eagle was on the nest, and presumably her mate was =
perched close by in another tree.

On our way back to Wolfville I spotted some new yellow flowers of lesser =
celandine (a buttercup).

Cheers from Jim in Wolfville.=
