<span style="font-size: 12pt;">Earlier this afternoon I went over to the little brook by</span>

<span style="font-size: 12pt;">my shed. About 1 meter wide and not very deep. It</span>

<span style="font-size: medium;">is now covered with trees so almost totally shaded.</span>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: medium;">First there was a mallard hen with one chick. The chick could</span>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: medium;">not have been more than a couple of days old. A quite little fellow</span>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: medium;">all brown and yellow. But it knew what was good to eat and was</span>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: medium;">some quick when an insect came near.</span>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: medium;">Soon another hen mallard came along with a brood of 3. These were</span>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: medium;">half grown and were able to tip up to feed on the bottom.</span>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: medium;">As I watched a trout swam by going down to the bay. More</span>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: medium;">water there in the summer and cooler too. A good size also</span>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: medium;">for a Nova Scotia Brook Trout.</span>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: medium;">When we came there the edge of the brook was lawn so we</span>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: medium;">let the red maples grow. The leaves feed the stoneflies and they feed</span>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: medium;">the ducks and trout. By the look of the lawns in the area they never</span>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: medium;">suffered from an overdose of fertilizer. </span>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: medium;">All this wildlife in my yard!</span>
