This afternoon I was checking some plantings in containers I have sitting on
stumps. I kept hearing loud snaps while in the kitchen with the window open.
On the stump were two large, well I'll say insects. I've seen a number here
but usually not so large and usually when it is cooler and never two
together. They were about 1" long, maybe a bit longer, with heavy long
antennae that made them seem about 2". I think I saw stripes cross wise over
the antennae. Might have been cobwebs, I really do not know.
Something in my memory, which is getting worse daily, said Ugh: "Stump
lifters". Would anyone here know what these might be and what do they want.
I came in got the camera but when I got back I could find no sign of them
and the snapping sound isn't happening .
