Clan Henderson was found in Aberdeen and Liddesdale, Scotland, in the 14th Century. Historically, Clan Henderson is also listed as a sept of Clan Gunn, Clan MacNaughton and
Clan MacDonald of Glencoe.

Clan Henderson was officially recognized to represent all Hendersons on May 27, 1985. On that date, the Lord Lyon declared Dr. John Henderson of Fordell, as Chief of the Name and Arms of Henderson.
