Killbrook Cove to McCallum and Brent Cove in Facheaux Bay;
Pass Island and the goblin again.

McCallum
Monday morning we tied up to the government wharf at McCallum and had a walk about the center of the community on its board and concrete walkways. At the top of the hill, overlooking the open sea to the southwest, we found the library and community clinic, complete with a basketball court and helicopter landing pad.
McCallum waterfront We patronized Fudge’s Store, where we acquired their remaining supply of Purity Ginger Snaps, got a six-pack of Black Horse Ale for a bit of local taste, and some other incidental provisions.

Red fish were being off-loaded from some open outboard boats alongside the wharf but otherwise things were pretty quiet ashore.
McCallum homes These houses clinging to the hill slope above their fish staging pretty well sum up the staunch quality of the local inhabitants.
Looking back at McCallum
A look back as we head out takes in the whole outport and its neat self-contained character.
We set a double-reefed main and a single-reefed fores’l in the outer reaches of the harbour and by 1130 were out in fresh to strong westerlies with seas building to 4 to 6 feet. The first tack took us across Hermitage Bay, toward Pass Island, where we could see into Bay d'Espoir. The conditions were not enjoyable for either vessel or crew so when we found ourselves off the entrance to Facheux Bay around 1500 hours we decided to head in and find an anchorage.
Brent Cove By 1600 we had anchored in Brent Cove, a windy shoal cove on the western side of the Bay. There was a gravel delta created by a large stream at its western end. We took a hike ashore up along and across this wide but shallow rock-filled flat streambed.
waterfall at Brent Cove Large waterfalls on the northern side of this valley were visible to us, but we decided against walking up the river bed in favor of supper.
