Hi all,

    CCN has been experiencing a flood of spam which, among other 
things, is slowing logins to webmail etc.

    From TECH:
                    *** Delayed mail, spam storm ***

    A surge of junkmail directed at our system is responsible for some 
delay in incoming mail.  The problem is under control, delayed mail is 
being delivered as fast as possible and should all be delivered by 
later this evening.

    Some users reported problems logging into their mailboxes earlier 
today during the height of the junkmail storm.  Mail logins are 
working normally now.  Incoming junkmail has increased over the last 
week to more than 1,000,000 messages a day.  These are tending to 
arrive in waves, in effect creating a Denial Of Service attack on 
Chebucto.

    We are working on modifying our mail system to cope with this 
amount of junkmail and ask for your patience.  The mail system 
upgrades necessary to deal with this ever-increasing amount of 
junkmail will take several days to put into effect.
