The Halifax Regional Council recently decided that transit fares would be raised and service on some routes cut to help make up a shortfall in the municipal budget. This is the second fare hike in less than a year, while Metro Transit is one of North America's most cost-effective transit services, according to HRM staff. I think accessible transit is a necessary element in moving towards environmentally friendly cities (if you want to discuss the reasons why, contact me personally). My councillor, Jerry Blumenthal, seems to be willing to raise this issue again at Council. Please, please, please, if you want this issue revisited, contact your councillor ASAP!
