hi Folks, as long-suffering listowner, one of my chores is to select which
messages to post to sust-mar from those that are sent to the list. It's a
touchy issue, b/c people can feel quite upset when their messages are not
selected; however, as we have seen, other subscribers can be equally irate
when i post messages which they do not feel are appropriate.

I try to stick to our collectively developed guidelines of only posting
messages which deal with an issue of sustainability and/or the environment
*and* which concern directly Maritime Canada.

One general rule i use is to try not to post messages which could appear
on another (eg a national) list. I do this out of respect for people who
subscribe to other lists. However, it's not a black-and-white issue and
there can be lots of overlap. And many times i've scolded people for
posting "off-topic" posts only to be humbled with the revelation that
several subscribers found it very useful and hadn't seen this information
anywhere else!

To help me out, if your message is not immediately obvious as a
sustainability *and* Maritime issue, why not preface it with a few lines
of explanation. For example, "this New York state issue is very similar
to what is happening in New Brunswick right now ... "

Takes a few seconds but it would realy help me out ... remember, i have
only a few seconds to decide on when and if to post each message ... and
in order to log on to CCN from Toronto i have to wake up extra early in
the morning when my mind is not at its best!

take care
~paul :)
