JUST RELEASED, a new publication of NSPIRG
Dalhousie INC., the Corporatisation of a University
written by Benjamin Hirtle
Dalhousie Inc. is a critical look at Dalhousie
University and how corporate management is coming
to dominate within its walls. Originally begun as
an inquiry into corporate funding of the University,
the report became much more broad in its focus.
The main areas of focus are:
The University's Board of Governors and their corporate
ties, such as to the right wing think tank The Atlantic
Institute of Market Studies.
The new managerial vision of President Traves and the
increasingly common pretension that universities are
corporations.
How these changes in funding and vision, or the
lack thereof, may affect faculty and curriculum.
A recently released Industy Canada report that provides
a disturbing blueprint for the further commercialization
of university research.
How the students' representatives, the Dalhousie Student
Union have responded to corporatisation.
There are also several appendices that give more
detailed information on the above. A bound copy is
available at nspirg.
