"Universities have a purpose. They are supposed to be pressing the
boundaries of knowledge and inspiring student questioning; they are
basically supposed to be subversive." - Noam Chomsky

The Nova Scotia Public Interest Research Group (also known as nspirg) is
gearing up for another year of activity, research, education and action.
NSPIRG is a campus-based student funded organization with links to the
broader Nova Scotia community. Our focus is local, regional and global.

Think of us as an umbrella group with working groups that focus on
different issues. Each group decides collectively on what they're going to
achieve and how they're going to go about it. Groups can host workshops,
forums, speakers, lobby politicians, write articles. New members are always
welcome.
Our current working groups are:

Eco Action
Economic Justice,
Humans Against Homophobia (HAH)
Animal Liberation Collective
Women's Health Collective
Students Taking Action in Chiapas (STAC)
Halifax Rainbow Speakers Project

Some of our most recent publications include "Clearcutting in Perspective"
- a 36 page publication on the reality of clearcutting in Nova Scotia.
Copies are still available through our office.
The Handy Dandy - a directory of alternative resources and contacts in
Metro. If you don't already have one you should - copies still available
through our office.

Dalhousie Inc: the corporatization of a university. Copies can still be
borrowed from our library.

We are currently updating the "Single Mother's Survival Guide" - copies
should be available soon. We'll keep you posted.

We also have a volunteer run food cooperative and an organic garden on campus.
Soon we will be starting our Cinema PIRGatory film series which show films
on a weekly basis in the McMechan room of the Killam Library.

If any of the above strikes your fancy give us a call (494-6662), or drop
us a line (nspirg@is2.dal.ca) or just drop in (Room 314 Dal SUB). If you'd
like to be on our emailing list and contacted with information about
upcoming meetings/events just reply to this message with "SUBSCRIBE" in the
subject line.

And if you have a bit of time you can check out our web site -
