Some news from the PEI Pie Brigade: Hello friends and pie lovers, Evan Brown was released from jail on Friday May 25 (after serving 9 days) pending an appeal of his sentence. Sorry we did not inform you sooner. Evan's sentence is 30 days in jail. If the appeal (expected to be heard this fall) is successful, Evan may not serve any more jail time. Despite the fact that Evan is free (for now), the PEI Pie Brigade would like to voice our solidarity and support for the June 9 Day of Pie-rect Action called for by autonomous underGround! We will see if Chretien dares to make any public appearances this Saturday. We have also been informed that some citizens will be gathering in groups to pie each other and see whether the police press charges. Evan's sentence clearly demonstrates the double standard of law when it comes to the ruling class. Chretien grabs anti-poverty activist Bill Clennett by the neck, throws him to the ground, and breaks his teeth but charges are not pursued by the Crown. Evan Brown gently places a sweet and soft cream pie in Chretien's face (in defence of people and safe food) and receives 30 days in jail for a first offence. One inmate in the same jail was serving a sentence of 7 days for assaulting someone with a knife (his second offence). It is clear that what the legal system values most is the ruling class' image. Pastry servings have continued to rise up around the world, and also this past weekend (June 2) at a meeting of G8 the Science Ministers in Montmagny, Québec. The meeting was to discuss issues such as cloning, experiments on human embryos, patents on life, etc. and protesters were met by 10 counter-demonstrators from the 'Raéliens' (a religious sect in favor of cloning and who believe that we are descendants of aliens). All 10 'Raéliens' were pied in a flurry that would have made The Three Stooges proud. The 'Raéliens' were not happy and left. Chretien and his rich friends should consider that as long as they continue to lie we will continue to pie! YOU CAN HELP!!! Evan's legal costs have been mounting, as there have been numerous hearings and appeals (not to mention subpoenaing Chretien). We greatly appreciate all of the donations, however a good deal more money is still needed to cover the legal costs. If you want to help but can't afford a donation, a couple of ideas for fundraisers are pie throwing contests, and selling slices of pie (contact us for other ideas).
