=======> Let us know your feelings...

The growing herbal industry shows that people are
interested in natural medicines and herbal remedies,
but is it good for the environment??

Ginseng was extirpated in New Brunswick due to people
digging it up and selling it for medicines, do you know of
any other similar situations in the Maritimes?

Please reply to this email or: nben@nbnet.nb.ca

Le ginseng avait disparu du Nouveau-Brunswick parce que les gens le
retirait du sol et le vendait comme
médicament; connaissez-vous d'autres situations similaires aux
Maritimes? nben@nbnet.nb.ca

Ginseng has never (yet) been found growing wild (without cultivation)
in New Brunswick. In Canada, Ginseng has only been found in southern
Ontario and southern Quebec, but many sites in those two provinces
have been lost and many large populations decimated
due to overcollection for medicinal use. Ginseng does occur in Maine and
could theoretically occur in similar suitable habitat in New Brunswick, but
it has never been reported here except as an introduced agroforestry crop.

Sorry about that folks!
