Here's some news that might interest those in Halifax and other maritime
communities that have been active in the fight against pesticides and
other toxic stuff ...

Do you remember that scare a year or so ago, when all those dead birds
were turning up? And people were worried about West Nile Virus?

This is probably old news to some. But, the Fall 2001 issue of
Alternatives, http://www.alternativesjournal.ca in an article by Helen
Baulch (page 4) reports that many of the autopsied birds were killed not
by the virus. Rather, it was common pesticides that got them. Insecticides
are also reported to be a problem.

Apparently the news isn't really new or startling. However, when resources
were directed at the West Nile problem, there were more dead birds being
studied.

Here's hoping for a spring that is anything but silent ...
