Please find below job descriptions for three job openings at the Ecology
Action Centre. Note that the deadlines are early next week!

TRAX Project Coordinator
Ecology Action Centre

Emissions Testing Clinic Organiser

The Ecology Action Centre, along with Environment Canada, are hosting a
vehicle emissions testing clinic on the weekend of May 22 and 23. There
have
been clinics held in the past in Halifax, so this year’s event can be
modeled
after the others to a certain extent.

The organiser will :
- Find a location for the clinic
- Organize and carry out communications strategy
- Organize and carry out vehicle emissions testing clinic itself
- Coordinate volunteers
- Liase with Environment Canada testing team
- Find additional sponsors

Fri. April 26 to May 23, plus some follow-up work
Contract: $1200- $1500.00

Ideally, the contractor will have access to a computer, phone line, etc.

and will work out of his or her home or office as space is extremely
limited
at the Ecology Action Centre. Advice will be provided by the
Transportation

Issues Committee. The contractor will be self motivated, knowledgable
about climate change and vehicle emissions.

Anti-Idling Project Coordinator Job Description

Full-time position available for 12 weeks with the Ecology Action
Centre’s Transportation Committee. We are looking for a Project
Coordinator to work on a project to reduce vehicle idling among fleets
within the Halifax Regional Municipality. We are looking for someone who
is passionate about, knowledgeable and experienced in sustainable
transportation issues.

The project includes undertaking background interviews and research,
working with fleet managers and employees, delivering anti-idling
workshops, distributing anti-idling brochures and displays, evaluating
the impact of the project and producing a final report.

Skills:
· Knowledge and interest in environmental issues, including
transportation issues
· Strong public speaking skills with the ability to persuade and
motivate people to make personal changes
· Ability to work independently and conscientiously without supervision
· Computer literacy in MS Office, including Word, familiarity with
e-mail and  Internet
· Good writing skills
· Experience in advocacy and lobbying an asset
· Persistent, optimistic approach, with ability to find new ways to
solve problems

The position is from May 15-August 15, and pays $15 per hour, 35 hours
per week.

Bike Again! Job Description

Part-Time Coordinator for Bike Again! Community Project of the Ecology
Action Centre

 The Bike Again! Community project recycles used bicycles and provides
them
 to people who will use the bike as their primary mode of
transportation.
 Bike Again has been run by volunteers since its inception in the fall
of
 2000 and is now in need of a part time coordinator.

 Job duties will include:
· coordination of volunteers (organize bike fix up days)
· advertising the program to increase bike donations
· working with Bike Again! steering committee to enhance the existing
· program and develop fund raising initiatives
· develop and administer survey to people receiving bikes through the
· program to determine emission reductions through increasing cycling as
a
· primary mode of transportation
· locate suitable workshop space or permanent location for the project
· organize bikes and bike parts

 Qualifications (three of the following are sufficient)
· passion for cycling
· knowledge of climate change issues
· knowledge of bike mechanics
· self motivated and organized
· experience with volunteer coordination

 Coordinator will be expected to work independently, with support from
the
 Bike Again Steering committee. Coordinator should have access to a
computer and internet independent of the Ecology Action Centre.

 17 hours per week @$15.00/hr
 May 1st 2002 - October 31st 2002
