Letter to all those concerned about environmental damage by ATVs:

There is strong lobbying underway by All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) organisations
to legitimise their use of public places, including protected areas.

A lot of environmental damage is occurring, and it will get worse if we as a
province are not able to come up with a plan that keeps ATVs out of some
sensitive and remote areas.

The proponents of ATVs are well organised. To give a balanced view to
government, groups and individuals which are concerned about the environment
need to speak out. The NS chapter of CPAWS has recently expressed concern,
but many more voices are needed at this critical time.

The ATV Association of Nova Scotia has already lobbied the MLAs and plans a
large-scale petition to legalise the use of our few "protected areas" by
ATVs.

Below are some sites that provide information on what is being done in other
regions, including New Brunswick, where a task force has reported. Please
look these over and let the government know your views.

You could write to the ministers of Natural Resources and Environment &
Labour jointly:
Hon. David Morse, Minister, Environment & Labour morsedm@gov.ns.ca
Hon. Ernest Fage, Minister, Natural Resources min_dnr@gov.ns.ca

The New Brunswick task force report on ATV use was released on March 22,
2002. It is on-line at http://www.gnb.ca/0276/

And the NB Government's immediate response to the ATV report is at
