1. THE NATURAL STEP PRESENTATION
Title:  Transitioning Towards Sustainability:  An Introduction to The
Natural Step (TNS)
 
Description:  A presentation on The Natural Step (TNS) Framework, a
methodology for planning that provides an elegant, rigorous,
science-based understanding of sustainability together with a tested
planning approach to translate that understanding into practice.
Participants will learn about the principles of the TNS Framework and
how it is being applied in businesses and communities worldwide.
Organizations using the TNS Framework include: the Regional Municipality
of Whistler, Interface, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities,
amongst others. Come and learn about this important tool for
sustainability - we all can play a role.
 
Date:  Thursday, August 7
Time:  12:00pm – 1:30pm, Light refreshments included. Please bring your
reusable mug.
Location: Room 105, Dalhousie Law School, 6061 University Avenue,
Halifax
Cost: Free, but donations appreciated
 
Bios:
Chad Park, B.Comm., M.Sc. - As Sustainability Advisor with TNS Canada,
Chad works with organizations and communities to support the use of the
TNS Framework as a tool for sustainability planning and education. A
past National President of AIESEC Canada, his background also includes
sustainability-related experience with Mountain Equipment Co-op, the
Canadian Eco-Industrial Network, Sustainability Asset Management, the
ZERI Foundation, and VanCity Credit Union.

Pong Leung, B.Comm., M.Sc. - Pong is a Sustainability Advisor with TNS
Canada. Prior to joining TNS  Canada, he completed a research project on
sustainable corporate  strategies with Shell Canada. He has previously
worked with the Alberta Government Climate Change Strategic Directions,
and Climate Change Central, the National Executive of AIESEC Canada, as
well as with NGOs and business on sustainability issues in Sweden,
Mexico, Argentina and Hong Kong.

4. OXFAM AUGUST MOVIE NIGHTS FOR THE MAKE TRADE FAIR CAMPAIGN We will be
watching two movies:

Thursday, August 7 from 7:00-9:00 PM "Trading Democracy": The Bill
Moyers 2002 documentary about NAFTA's Chapter 11. Learn what's wrong
with NAFTA and why the FTAA is something to oppose.

Thursday, August 21 from 7:00-9:00 PM "Who's Counting? Sex, Lies and
Global Economics": A powerful movie about economics, politics, gender,
environment, human rights and Aboriginal wisdom. This is a prize-winning
1995 National Film Board of Canada documentary with messages that are
just as relevant and urgent today. This movie could change your life. A
must-see.

Both movie showings are free and will take place at the Oxfam Canada
Office, 2099 Gottingen Street, Halifax. All welcome!
