Here's what one Nova Scotian is up to in August ...

-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-

"MEN WANTED: FOR HAZARDOUS JOURNEY. SMALL WAGES, BITTER COLD, LONG MONTHS
OF COMPLETE DARKNESS, CONSTANT DANGER, SAFE RETURN DOUBTFUL. HONOUR AND
RECOGNITION IN CASE OF SUCCESS. SIR ERNEST SHACKLETON"

That's the advertisement that inspired us.

Mr. Paul Falvo, LCdr T. Flavin and Mr. M. Campbell will in August 2003 --
under the capable guidance of Expedition Leader Mr. Scott Niblock --
attempt the CANOL Heritage Trail. One of the most remote trails in the
world, this historic path encompasses over 200 miles of rugged wilderness
in Canada's Yukon and Northwest Territories.

Read more about our route at http://canoltrail.tripod.com

Why would we entertain such a dangerous venture?

In part to raise money for the important conservation work of the Canadian
Parks and Wilderness Society - Northwest Territories Chapter.

YOU can sponsor our expedition!

For $20 you can sponsor One Mile. We will write you a postcard from the
Trail on the day we hike "your" mile.

For $50 you can sponsor one of our nightly Camps. We will send you a photo
of "your" camp.

For $100 you can sponsor one of our twelve River Crossings. We will send
you a photo AND call you on our satellite phone IF we make it across
"your" river.

For $150 you can sponsor the Twitya ... that's the Big River crossing.
Photo and a phone call.

Finally ... for serious money ... for $200 you can sponsor a Grizzly. We
expect to encounter many grizzlies along the route. If you donate $200 to
CPAWS-NWT, we will send you a photo of "your" grizzly. If we can. We'll
name him or her after you. We'll phone you afterwards. If we can. CPAWS
will send you a 1 L Nalgene water bottle.

No joke!

Funds raised will go towards conservation efforts in the Sahtu Region of
the NWT by CPAWS-NWT. CPAWS-NWT is part of a national grassroots
conservation organisation dedicated to protecting Canada's wilderness
(charitable non-profit organisation # 10686 5272 RR0001). For more
information on CPAWS campaigns, or to become a CPAWS member, go to
