INTERPROVINCIAL DEMONSTRATION TO DEFEND
AGAINST A TOXIC ENVIRONEMENT

Chaleur Bay, October 28, 2003 – Community residents of Chaleur Bay,
and especially our youth, are invited to attend an Interprovincial
Solidarity March against a toxic environment this Sunday, November
2nd, on the bridge between Campbellton and Pointe-à-la-Croix

Federal Environment Minister David Anderson remains silent regarding
our demand for a construction moratorium on the construction of the
toxic waste incinerator in Belledune.

The coalitions Environnement-Vie and Return to Sender are calling on
everyone, and especially our youth, from both provinces to come
forward and make their opposition heard, clearly and loudly, and
plainly for our Environment Minister to see.

The construction of this toxic waste incinerator is but the first in
a long series of new projects for the area, projects that are simply
incompatible with a view of our Bay being a place where a viable
life can be had for our youth. The government of New Brunswick's
decision to throw open the doors to heavy industry constitutes a
serious challenge to the region's health and long-term viability.

Over 39,000 people to date, from Mi'kmaq, anglophone, acadian and
gaspesian communities of both New Brunswick and Quebec, have
expressed their opposition by signing the petitions, and opposition
continues to mount.

This demonstration is another in a series of popular protests that
have been held in concert with the toxic waste incinerator's
construction currently under way in Belledune.

Location

The people of the Gaspe coast are invited to come to the
Pointe-à-la-Croix side of the Interprovincial bridge this
Sunday, November 2nd, at 12:00 noon (Quebec time).

The people of New Brunswick are invited to meet at the Salmon Plaza,
located in proximity of downtown Campbellton City Centre shopping
mall, at 1:00 pm (New Brunswick time)

- 30 -

A further action is planned in the Acadian peninsula for the week
following this march.
