LIBERAL CAUCUS CALLS FOR MORATORIUM ON THE USE OF VISION

(Halifax) The Liberal Caucus is calling on the department of natural
resources to impose an immediate Moratorium on the spread of Vision and
other Herbicides on Nova Scotia forests.

"Products like Vision and other related herbicides have been linked to
detrimental effects on the environment, both in the long and short term"
Kings West MLA, Leo Glavine stated.

The department of Natural Resource has called for a tender to spray
Vision on locations in Cumberland, Colchester and Kings Counties.

"Several European countries as well as Alberta and Quebec have banned
the use of Vision and I feel we should know all the facts before we
start a process that may harm the health of the people and the wildlife
of Nova Scotia" says Victoria-The-Lakes, MLA Gerald Sampson.

The Liberal Caucus is calling on the government to impose a moratorium
until there is a full public consultation and further evidence to
support the safe application of herbicides on Nova Scotia woodlands. The
Nova Scotia government should be advancing sustainable forestry
practices that other countries and provinces now employ.

Glavine added, "A study by eminent oncologist Dr. Lennont Hardell and
Dr. Mikael Erikson of Sweden have revealed a clear link between
Glyphosate, the active ingredient in Vision and Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, a
form of cancer. I want to live in a province where the health of Nova
Scotians is not negotiated."
