                               .
Lester Pearson International’s DAL-Outreach Program, the Department of
International Development Studies, and the Society for Corporate Environmental
and Social Responsibility (CESR) at Dalhousie present a special talk on Chiapas
Indigenous Women’s Cooperatives.

Pascuala Patishtán of Jolom Mayaetik (‘Women Weavers’ in Tsotsil) and Merit
Ichin Santiesteban of K’inal Antzetik (‘Land of Women’ in Tseltal) will speak
on “Organizing for Change.”
In Chiapas, Indigenous women’s Fair Trade cooperatives and non-governmental
organisations (NGOs) have preserved the traditional craft of weaving and
maintained the autonomy of women and indigenous communities.

The talk will be held on Monday, February 14, 2005 from 1pm until 2pm in the
Lord Dalhousie Room, on the main floor of the Henry Hicks Academic
Administration Building, Dalhousie University. An informal weaving
demonstration will follow the talk.

All are welcome to attend.

The visit of the Chiapas Indigenous Women’s Weaving Cooperative to Nova Scotia
is being organized by Just Us! Coffee Roasters Co-op and the Canadian Fair
Trade Network.
