Congratulations to and admiration for Walter Regan and the Sackville River
Association,
for their stream restoration work for the Little Sackville....even and of
course as it flows
through the desolate heartland of fastfoodland, Sackville Drive. Here we
have caring
for the seemingly downtrodden and the lowliest, who have a beauty of their
own, even
if little seen or appreciated. All that small watershed asks for is its
natural life.
Meander at KFC
The Little Sackville River
flows past the Kentucky Fried Chicken place.
For this river, no wider in July
than two leaps, Walter and his crew
give a gift: Meander. What the river
always wanted and remembered
anyway. A few slanted ledges
and the bubbling, the pool, the sound,
return. I wish it could speak, now,
through the arc'd length of being, through barriers,
to the combined and accumulated souls of
the chickens who we took to be compacted meat,
who may have wished to meander, coming as a dream,
which we will strike, if we will,
from the deep voice of their selves.
