Clan MacDonell in the Military

MacDonell, an alternate spelling of MacDonald, was adopted in the 17th century. The MacDonells of Glengarry and of Keppoch both descend from the First Lord of the Isles (MacDonald).

Clan MacDonell of Glengarry is an early division of Clan Ranald branch of Clan MacDonald.

MacDonell of Keppoch (and of Garragach) were sometimes known as Clan Ranald of Lochaber.
