For most of the day, since early morning, there have been two Merlins
chasing the jays and then a Kestrel arrived and they began to chase him
also. The Kestrel did a lot of sitting around on the wires ( which allowed
me to get a decent clip of him). At one point, one Merlin attacked him from
above and when he landed on the ground the other one went down to pounce on
him again. After about an hour the Kestrel finally left for parts unknown.
At about 1:30 while delivering mail I saw a Yellow Billed Cuckoo. I stopped
at a group mailbox and it landed about 4 feet from me in the alders with a
bug. I sat there long enough for it to finish its meal. It didn't even fly
until I opened the mailbox.
