The earliest SW nesting I know of was one of Harry Brennan's in Pictou
County...March 17th (I think...going by memory here). The only
cleaning that needs to  be done is to get rid of inactive squirrel
nest material, and if one is lucky enough, waste material from a
previous bird nesting. Resident males are thought to be looking for
nest cavities now, so a cleaned out box would be inviting.

Oh, it's also a great time of year to be getting rid of pesky wasp
nests that may be hanging from the ceiling of the nest box.
