JUNE 16, 2011 - Brenda and Bill Thexton of east Wolfville report
that, two days ago (June 14/11) their regular male n. cardinal
brought two fledged youngsters with dark beaks to their feeding
tray. Presumably their regular female is busy now starting their
second attempt at nesting. And the male tending fledglings seems to
be normal for cardinals, and makes good sense as part of a breeding
strategy to maximize the number of attempts during a breeding
season. The Thextons also noticed a difference (sexual?) between the
fledglings: one of them has some red colour in the breast area (male?).

Cheers from Jim in Wolfville.
