Refilling the empty feeders this morning I had the baby chickadees feeding
from my hand which they will do quite readily when the feeders are empty. I
almost had a baby Blue jay come to my hand but it was too wary. While I
was out there an immature humming bird was hovering behind a downy WP that
was going up and down a dead birch behind the house. It followed the WP up
and down the tree just a few inches away. Mostly curious I think.
This week we were adopted for few days by a GB Heron. It was in the
driveway every morning and then retreated to the top of one of the spruces. We
have a small brook but with only the very occasional trout and no other
significant food source so not sure of the attraction. A welcome addition to the
 property however.
There was apparently a large whale, badly decomposed, tangled in the head
rope of a trap, in the bay this week off Mill Cove. I heard that it was
towed out to sea yesterday but can't confirm that.
