Outside on our deck was a paper wasp, Vespa, on the wall, but immobile for at least two hours, at about 6 C. temperature. NOV. 10, 2011 - One junco seen at my feeders, and a flicker in our yard. NOV. 12, 2011 - 2 male cardinals together seen in our yard, and 2 juvenile female cardinals at the feeders. NOV. 14, 2011 - 2 juncos at my Wolfville feeders, with 4 white- throated sparrows, etc. At 10 p.m. on our front screen door were 2 male winter moths and 1 unidentified plume moth. These winter moths are the drab tan ones whose genus name starts with an "O" (to be looked up later). NOV. 15, 2011 - Saxon St. Pond: about 10 n. pintails (nearly all males, 1 female/immature), 1 female or imm. hooded merganser, lots of mallards (50+), fewer Am. black ducks (15+), 10+ green-winged teals, 3 perched imm. bald eagles plus several other soaring eagles. Silver Lake at Lakeville: about 170 Canada geese and 2 male hooded mergansers. Canard Pond: no waterfowl seen. Port Williams sewage/sewer ponds: 12 mallards. Wolfville, Highland Avenue: starlings eating yew "berries" (which are really naked cones, of course) -- just to show that "poisonous" is never true for all organisms, and the danger of watching wildlife to see what is edible!
