Today R Stern, B Forsythe & I made a trip to Centreville, Digby Neck &
then worked our way back from there. On the way down we went thru
Bridgetown specifically to get a Turkey Vulture & we did. At Trout
Cove, Centreville, in a very rough sea we had ~40 Harlequin Ducks
right in the cove. It was impossible to get a precise count due to the
waves & their diving. There were also 4 Great Cormorants there plus 2
more at Point Prim.

In Digby on the road out to the Ferry Terminal there were ~80
Long-tailed Ducks quite far out & 1 Red-necked Grebe. There were 2
more Red-necked Grebes right at the big wharf in Digby & 4 Greater
Scaup. At the sewage ponds in Annapolis Royal (in behind French Basin)
there was a Ring-necked Duck.

Other duck species seen in modest numbers at various locations were
Black Duck, Common Eider, Surf Scoter, White-winged Scoter,
Bufflehead, Common Goldeneye & Red-breasted Merganser. Several Common
Loons & Iceland Gulls were also seen.

The highlight of the day was 2 Brant seen right in the town of Digby.
We had driven S thru the yacht club on a loop road, then back up to a
N/S street, and then took the next dead-end street going right back
down to the waterfront. If I recall correctly, there is a Recycling
Depot on that street. From the end of this street we looked S to an
area with sand bars, tidal flats, etc. Up on the tidal flat, the 2
Brant were steadily grazing. There were Canada Geese just a bit
further to the S. A 'scope was handy to confirm the Brant at the
distance involved. I apologize for the directions but I think they
would work if you started at the yacht club. There are likely other
streets further S that would look onto this beach area.

We stopped at the Bent farm just N of Middleton & found 4 or more
Brown-headed Cowbirds among the hundreds of Starlings.
