Dear Everyone:=0A=0AThe wonderful thing about the Face book group (216 memb=
ers and more are added each week) is that there seems to be a sense of comm=
unity of interest. =A0Why we just finished having a Shorebird ID contest, f=
ollowed by a Warbler ID contest and folks are posting pictures of what they=
saw that day. =A0We also follow the antics of "Chimney" who by the way has=
his own page, along with "Snowbird", "Little Wing" and "Snowberry"-all sta=
rlings (one of whom was orphaned and hand raised by one of our members). =
=A0Vogel, the Common Gallinule at Red Bridge Pond is a star attraction. =A0=
The biggest success is that we now have members who are all over NS, Atlant=
ic Canada, some in the States and at least one in Europe who is planning a =
trip to Cape Breton.=A0=0A=0AWe post about upcoming NSBS field trips and ot=
her tidbits of information.=0A=0AIt has allowed beginner birders who may ha=
ve been a bit too shy about saying how little they knew about birds to be i=
nvolved and learn more. =A0There is no pressure to twitch or to create list=
s. =A0People are free to post pictures (all of them are good) and to ask qu=
estions such as what should we put on the windows to prevent strikes. =A0We=
have pictures of common birds such as starlings and of very rare birds suc=
h as golden-winged and prothonotary warblers. =A0People are very helpful to=
each other and the group is a=A0wonderful social networking tool that has,=
I believe, increased the profile of the NSBS.=0A=0AYou can join if you wan=
t or not if you don't want to.=0A=0ATuma Young=0APS. We are not the only on=
e who have a Facebook group: Nova Scotia Nature Trust and a variety of othe=

Tuma and I are the admins and membership is up over 200, many of whom are a=
ctive participants. It's become a fun place for people to ask questions, po=
st pics and generally share bird info. Anyone can join as long as you have =
a facebook account, which anyone can have. =0A>=A0  Helene=0A> =0A>=A0  On =
