Hi all
At Big I. there was an sign of beginning shorebird migration as well. =
The tide was very high when I was there early this morning so hard to =
get much of a count as shorebirds were in the saltmarsh. I did however =
see 6 Lesser Yellowlegs and 3 Black-bellied Plover including one in full =
breeding costume.=20
I counted at least 13 local Willets but I am sure there are more than =
that. A pair of Piping Plovers nested at Big I. this year from which =
there are 2 young birds A pair of Piping Plovers elsewhere in Pictou =
Co. have just started nesting and on fresh eggs a day or 2 ago- busy =
beach and poor location for the nest and such a late start. It would be =
remarkable if this nest was successful,. but we can always hope. I don't =
think there were any Piper nests in Pictou Co. last year, so this is a =
much better year as long as the young make it.=20

cheers
Ken
