Following the thread on poison plants.. my late mother was a florist for over
sixty years. Every year at Christmas the 'powers to be' would deem a plant
poisonous and advised not to have it in your house. Many of these were
decorative plants and very common. It took a few years and she came to
realize that they just came up with a new one every year. They did the same
to the gardeners.
We grew up around these plants and hadn't the slightest curiosity on what
they tasted like so she had a hard time figuring out children who may eat one
of these plants and of course get sick.
I sound maybe hard hearted but her favourite comment regarding these toxic
plants was "if the parents fed their children they would need to eat the
house plants"
Now the list of banned plants grow because they include poisoning the family
dog or cat. So I don't understand this whole banned plant thing.
