Hello Iim et al.

I haven't had much chance to count swifts this year=2C but did happen t=
o be in Wolfville on Sunday 5 August=2C and did a count of those entering t=
he Tufts Centre chimney. Frances Lourie was also there=2C and about 10 oth=
er observers that I did not know=2C but in case you did not get another rep=
ort=2C here is what I saw=2C all between 2040 and 2100.
Chimney Swift total: 54=2C all but 10 entering within 2 minutes at 2055=
. First one entered at 2043=2C another at 2048=2C the rest after 2050. No=
ne were left circling after the main entry=2C unlike the usual situation at=
 Middleton.

We had no nighthawks that day either.

AUG. 11=2C 2012 - Pat & I drove to Lunenburg for one afternoon of the Lunen=
burg Fork Harbour Festival.

Dusk at Wolfville's Robie Tufts Nature Centre for a count of roosting swift=
s for A SWIFT NIGHT OUT (see chimneyswifts.org on Internet). Totally overc=
ast but not darkly so=2C warm=2C 23 C.=2C calm=2C lots of hungry no-see-ums=
(biting midges)! Observations from 8:00 to 8:50 p.m. (Sunset time about 8=
:29). First swift entered chimney at 8:11. Entries began again at 8:25=2C=
and the last one entered at 8:45. But visibility then was very poor=2C an=
d quite possibly a few entering swifts were missed or came later (or even e=
arlier than 8 p.m.). Observers Jim Wolford plus five people from India. T=
otal number of seen swifts was 15+. =20

I was hoping to see a few migrating nighthawks this evening=2C both at Wolf=
ville and earlier along the New Ross Road (hwy. 12) in early evening as we =
returned from Lunenburg=2C but no luck on that.

Cheers from Jim in Wolfville. =
