Hi Jim & All, Jan 4, 2013
When a powerful predator becomes comfortable near houses then you =
have the equivalent of a ticking time bomb with an undefined detonation =
point. In the absence of change one may be confident that some child, =
while playing in their yard, will be mangled or killed by a coyote.=20
=20
Seven decades ago coyotes would have remained wary of humans; dogs =
could run and most rural houses had one or more firearms (sometimes =
loaded and hung over each exit door) and the freedom to use them when =
warranted.=20
Risk assessment is not one of our strong points. The prevailing =
notion that everything should be left to the authorities is a crock.=20
End of rant.

Subject: [NatureNS] re redness of coyote and deer carcass.
Locally for my area, a friend told me he was very surprised to look =
out from his rural house in Lockhartville (east of Avonport) and see a =
coyote only a few tens of metres away from his house in an open field, =
and it stood there and surveyed the situation for a while before =
sauntering off. This was probably nothing to be concerned about, but, =
if he reports a reoccurrence, it should be reported to NSDNR.
Cheers from Jim in Wolfville.

Hi, I wonder what if any harm it would do to let nature take it's =

Parks Canada used to use "bangers", kind of like a firecracker to =

would work on wily coyotes.=20
A neighbour's friend is a wildlife tech, so will ask him next time I =
see him. He was coincidentally on the news last night about coyotes in =
Laurie park.
Yeah, the red, and size really stood out to me=20
cheers,
