For anyone considering the purchase of a bird guide for smartphones, the
three major guides (Sibley, Peterson, iBird) are now in post-Christmas sales
with savings of 33-66%.

I would say the Peterson's book is the best for a beginner. The iphone app
of it is arranged just like the book with arrows highlighting relevant
features but is more cumbersome to use.

You can't beat the iBird Pro app for its songs and calls.

Is there a consensus on the "best" birding guide? I have the Peterson
Guide to Birds of North America, but I read of many people on this
list referring to Sibley's.

Thanks,
