[NatureNS] Shot Tailed Ichneumon attacking moth

These two Short Tailed Ichneumon Wasps (Ophion spp) were attracted to
the outside lights this morning (E Dalhousie, Kings Co). The first one
was on the post:

And the second was about 1ft above it attacking a moth:

I read later that this subfamily of Ichneumons (Ophioninae) almost
always deposit their eggs in moth caterpillars. So I am not sure why
this one was latched onto an adult moth. Any ideas?
