Dear All, July 19, 2014
Hymenoptera have been sparse in the yard for some (6 ?) weeks so I =
was interested this evening to see a small Bumble Bee working Gnapweed =
(Centuraea nigra). Unfortunately I do not yet know our BBs.

It was loaded with pollen and sonicating (not sure of this term but =
vibrating wings after landing) so assume it was gathering pollen. =
Several times it landed on flowers of other plants but moved on at once =
until landing on Gnapweed.

While watching this BB I noticed a Paper Wasp, acting a bit drunk, =
repeatedly landing on leaves or stems of Gnapweed >10 times (and nothing =
else) and always no more than 10 cm above ground level. It was not =
gathering hairs but I wonder if there are small beads of secretion on =
some hairs that was the (perhaps intoxicating) attraction.

Yt, Dave Webster, Kentville.
