According to the allaboutbirds web site:

There are two kinds of sunflower=97black oil and striped. The black oil see=
ds (=93oilers=94) have very thin shells, easy for virtually all seed-eating=
birds to crack open, and the kernels within have a high fat content, extre=
mely valuable for most winter birds. Striped sunflower seeds have a thicker=
shell, much harder for House Sparrows and blackbirds to crack open.

Hi all,

Got around to taking a bag of sunflower seed out of the car that I bought l=
ast week at Kent and noticed it is called "Black Sunflower" seed.

Is there a difference between it, and Black Oil seed?

Also remember seeing a thread a year or 2 ago about Nyjer seed, and can't r=
emember which is the good one. The last bag I bought a few years back, the =
birds wouldn't go near it.

P.S., there was a raccoon messing around the yard and pole of the Squirrel =
Stumper feeder last night, but t didn't knock it down or cause any damage/m=
ess. Hopefully it moves on, though they are around. One day last summer aro=

to work.
